This is a simplified version of VypressMessenger for Windows. This program is certified by Sun as 100% Pure Java, supporting Java 2 (a.k.a. JDK 1.2). The latest version of VypressMessenger features a redesigned user interface and support for UDP broadcasts.)

jaZip -- (jaZip is a program for maintaining your Iomega Zip and/or Jaz drives and disks under Linux. This program combines Grant Guenther's original command line utility, ziptool, with Jaz drive support and additional utilities so that you can easily mount and unmount disks. The jaZip user interface is similar to the Mac and Windows software that Iomega bundles with IomegaWare Tools. You can see a screen shot here. jaZip is covered under an open source, free license. This download is a gzipped TAR source package.)

GtkZip -- (GtkZip is a program for maintaining your Iomega Zip drive disks under Linux, similar in functionality to Iomega's IomegaWare Tools. It allows the user to mount and umount disks easily and also features the ability to change the protection status of a disk with or without password support. You can see a screen shot here. GtkZip can also summarize disk usage if you have the Libgtop library on your system. GtkZip is covered under the open source, free GNU GPL. Note: The link will redirect you to a Web page where you can download the package that is most appropriate for your preferred installation method. You can choose between RPM and gzipped TAR source packages and a RPM binary package for Linux for Intel. The file size listed above is for the source package.)

KLM -- (Klm is a KDE application that allows you to display and configure the hardware health monitoring sensors that are present in most modern (some Pentium and most Pentium II) PCs. It features a user-friendly interface that makes it possible to display the temperature, CPU fan speed (see screen shot 1), and as many of the other sensors as you wish. Each sensor can be individually configured to suit your machine. Sensors can be disabled and reordered on the display (see screen shot 2). In addition, Klm maintains a small icon in the tray of your KDE panel. The temperature from any temperature sensor is always displayed. Alarms are indicated by the machine beeping and the background turning pink. Klm is covered under the open source, free GNU GPL. Note: The link will redirect you to a Web page where you can download the package that is most appropriate for your Linux distribution and preferred installation method. You can choose between RPM and gzipped TAR source packages, a source package compressed with bzip2, and an RPM binary package. The file size listed above is for the gzipped TAR source package.)

BestCrypt -- (BestCrypt creates and supports encrypted virtual volumes for Linux. The volumes are then accessible as regular file systems on a corresponding mount point. The data stored on a BestCrypt volume is stored in a container file. A container file is a regular file, so the user can back up, move, or copy it to another disk (CD-ROM or network, for instance), and continue to access the encrypted data. This app supports the following encryption algorithms: GOST in Cipher Feedback mode, and Blowfish, DES, and Twofish in Cipher Block Chaining mode. Version 0.4b adds faster disk access, increased driver stability, and support for kernel 2.3.32. The download listed here is a gzipped TAR source package. BestCrypt is free for noncommercial use; see the license agreement for details)

Kaffe OpenVM Desktop Edition -- (Kaffe is a complete, PersonalJava 1.1-compliant Java environment. As an independent implementation, it was written from scratch and is free from all third-party royalties and license restrictions. It comes with its own standard class libraries, including Beans and Abstract Window Toolkit (AWT), native libraries, and a highly configurable virtual machine with a just-in-time (JIT) compiler for enhanced performance. There are two version of the graphics classes, one that requires X Windows and one that does not. Kaffe is covered under the open source, free GNU GPL. Note: The download link will redirect you to a Web page where you can download the package that is most appropriate for your version of Unix or Linux distribution and preferred installation method. You can choose between zipped, gzipped TAR, and RPM source packages and an RPM binary package. The file size listed above is for the gzipped TAR source package.)

nmap -- (nmap is a utility for port scanning large networks, although it also works for single hosts. It supports vanilla TCP connect scanning; TCP SYN (half open) scanning; TCP FIN, Xmas, or NULL (stealth) scanning; TCP FTP proxy (bounce attack) scanning; SYN/FIN scanning using IP fragments (bypasses packet filters); UDP raw ICMP port unreachable scanning; ICMP scanning (ping-sweep); TCP Ping scanning; Direct (non portmapper) RPC scanning; remote OS identification by TCP/IP Fingerprinting; and reverse-ident scanning. In addition, nmap features dynamic delay time calculations, packet timeout and retransmission, parallel port scanning, detection of down hosts via parallel pings, flexible target and port specification, decoy scanning, determining of TCP sequence predictability characteristics, and output to machine parseable or human readable log files. nmap is distributed under the GNU GPL. This download is a gzipped TAR source package.)

Tk -- (Tk is the windowing toolkit complement to Tcl that enables creation of sophisticated GUI programs with a few lines of Tcl code. Tcl/Tk is covered under an open source, free, BSD-style license. This download is a gzipped TAR source package.)

Japhar -- (Japhar is a Java VM (virtual machine) that has been built from the ground up without consulting Sun's sources. It offers functionality equivalent to Sun's 1.1.5 JDK. Japhar is covered under the open source. This download is a gzipped TAR source package.)

GTimer -- (GTimer times one or more tasks simultaneously and generates a report showing how your time was spent each day, week, and/or month. You can add annotations to tasks, and status reports can be generated based on the annotations. GTimer can create reports in either plain text or HTML. You can see a screen shot of the main GTimer window here. GTimer is copyrighted under the open source, free GNU GPL. This download is a gzipped TAR source package.)

Alladdin Expander -- (Aladdin Systems' multi-platform freeware Expander products allow you to decompress, decode, convert and access the most popular compression archive formats, including StuffIt® (.sit), Zip (zip), UUencode (.uu), MacBinary (bin), BinHex (.hqx), and more!)
